5-8 watt audio amplifier with unique tone control (schematic + demo)

This amplifier has a beautiful sound. Correction to the schematic: the resistor from the 1 M potmeter to ground is 3K3 (3300 Ohm) and not 33K.

IMPORTANT 1: the wooden plate has approx 1.8 cm thickness to prevent that the brass nails punch into the minus ground plate = shortcut.....) . It was first soaked with clear PVC glue (smell acetone) for sewage pipes, I made the circuit further on brass nails with a (+) wire (fat copper wire, 1 mm or less) and a (-) line/wire (the same), all is visible in the video.

IMPORTANT 2: on the backside from the wooden plate tin plate is glued with contact glue like bison kit (from cola or softdrink iron plate cans, no aluminum cans) and this tin plate is connected/soldered on 1 (one and only) point to the (-) lead on the other side from the board. This "ground plate" gives enough stabilty and prevents oscillations from the audio amplifier. Without this ground plate the amplifier is not stabile and can start to oscillate (screaming sounds or non audible oscillations that press/influence/distort the sound).

IMPORTANT 3: use a good quality 4K7 potentiometer to align the quiescent current. The carbon layer must be long/big to get a good precise alignment, so no small potentiometers or trimmers.

IMPORTANT 4: the amplifier was tested may hours on its maximum ratings (1A at 40 V), got very hot but not defective.

By the way: the 10 K potentiometers in the showed video must be logarithmic.

It is not expensive when you buy it via Lulu, via other channels (Amazon, bookshops) it could be expensive.

IMPORTANT 5: the 1 M potmeter needs a 3K3 (3300 Ohm) resistor from the - electrode to ground (the Minus wire). In this way the working point can be aligned properly.

IMPORTANT 6: the 2N3055 (NPN) and the 2955 (PNP) power end transistors are mounted on separate heatsinks isolated from everything on the wooden board. Surface: each on an aluminum plate from 2 mm thickness by 5 x 10 centimeters. No mica isolation is used to keep it simple. The BD139 (aligns the quiescent current) does NOT have to be (thermically) connected to (one of) the 2 isolated heatsinks from the 2N3055 or the 2955. The ambient temperature is enough for good stabilization quiescent current.

IMPORTANT 7: The aligning from the 4K7 potmeter for a good undistorted sound and proper quiescent current (approx 150 mA) is very critical. When you align this potmeter take a 20 Ohms power resistor in the + lead because the amp can suddenly take 4 ampere when you turn "over" the critical point and if that happens the BD 139 can be damaged. Damaging means that the base current gets too high and the BD 139 loses its proper amplification factor, from Hfe 150 it goes to Hfe 50 or Hfe 70. In that case the sine wave is not amplified properly any longer and cannot be aligned with the 2 potmeters in the schematic.

Or use current limiting and set the current limit to 500 mA or 1 A .

Finally: when you cannot find a 33 V or 34 V AC out transformer and you have a somewhat too high AC voltage you can drop that voltage somewhat from the supply capacitor (4700 uF) to the suppressor with some silicon diodes (3 A-500 V) put them in a row, each silicon diode drops the voltage with approx 0,7-0,8 Volt.
